What is Hardscaping? Hardscaping is the stone component of an outdoor living space. Hardscaping can be dry laid; or on a flexible base, and it can also be wet laid more commonly referred to as masonry. Typically hardscaping is a patio, walkway, wall, or columns. Hardscaping can also be wood as well, such as a pergola or lattice. Any good designer will soften up an outdoor hardscape space using plants, commonly referred to as “softscaping”.
"Hardscape" consists of the inanimate elements of landscaping, especially any masonry work or woodwork. It is one of the two major subcategories of landscaping, the other being softscape. In particular, as the name implies, "hardscape" refers to hard materials such as those composed of:
